About Us

Pahinungód is a Cebuano word which means selfless offering of one’s self”. The closest term to the oblation, UP’s symbol of selfless service to the nation, Pahinungód is the core of UP’s identity as the national university (Padagos, Pahinungód: Ugnayan ng Pahinungód Annual Report 2020-2021).

As the volunteer service arm of UP, the Ugnayan ng Pahinungód provides volunteer opportunities to its students, faculty, staff, alumni, retirees, and partners to serve the marginalized and underserved.

Established in 1994 under the administration of then UP President Emil Q. Javier as a response to the criticism that UP has lost its soul, the office was revitalized in 2019 by current UP President Danilo L. Concepcion as a concrete commitment to UP’s brand of honor and excellence with compassion.

Pahinungód is an integral part of UP’s mission in enriching instruction, research, extension, and public service through volunteerism.

With offices in each of the UP units -- UP Baguio, Cebu, Diliman, Los Baños, Manila, Mindanao, Open University, and the Visayas -- Pahinungód has transformed its partner communities and its volunteers that heeded the call of the Oblation.
