Map of communities served by the GP Program
The Gurong Pahinungód Program
The Gurong Pahinungód Program deploys UP graduates to serve as volunteer teachers for one year in public secondary schools in underserved areas.
These UP graduates embody the Oblation, UP's symbol for honor, excellence, and service, by committing a year of their life in the service of the underserved.
From 1998-2023, the GP Program was able to deploy 414 volunteers to 164 public secondary schools nationwide.
What A Gurong Pahinungód Does
The Gurong Pahinungód (GP) volunteer takes on many roles aside from classroom teaching.
A GP is:
A Teacher. They teach classroom subjects assigned by the school head.
A Mentor. They provide remediation and college preparatory sessions for high school students.
A Community Member. They become members of the community they live in. GPs also plan and conduct a community development project with and for the community.
An Ambassador of UP. They serve as a bridge to bring UP's services, such as teacher-training and other capacity-building projects, closer to underserved communities.
